Frequently asked.

If your question isn't answered here, our concierge team is one email away.

Are your rugs really handmade?

Every Ettilux rug is entirely hand-knotted on a traditional loom by a named Berber weaver in Morocco. There is no machine involvement at any stage — from carding the wool to trimming the pile.

Are your rugs made to order?

Yes. Unless a piece is listed in the Vintage Collection, every rug on the site — Beni Ourain, Beni Mrirt, Azilal, Boujad, Runners, Contemporary and Designer collections — is individually handcrafted by our Berber artisans after you place your order. No two handmade rugs are ever exactly identical, which is what makes each Ettilux piece truly one of a kind.

How long does production take?

Between 4 and 12 weeks for custom-made rugs. The exact timeline depends on the dimensions, design complexity, weaving technique, wool preparation, artisan workload and finishing requirements. This is not a delay — it is the natural time required to hand-weave an authentic luxury Moroccan rug.

What are the stages of production?

Design preparation, premium wool selection, hand spinning, natural dye preparation (when used), traditional hand weaving, detailed quality inspection, professional washing, controlled drying, hand finishing, final trimming and signature, then luxury packaging and international shipping. Every step is completed with museum-grade attention to detail.

Why is the washing stage so important?

The professional washing process brings out the softness, texture, colour depth, finish quality and long-term durability of the wool. It is one of the most essential steps in production and is never skipped on any Ettilux rug.

How does the Vintage Collection work?

Every rug in the Vintage Collection is authentic, original and one of a kind. Each piece is sourced, cleaned and photographed as a single unique rug — once sold, it cannot be reproduced or duplicated. Vintage pieces are ready to ship within 48 hours.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes — complimentary express shipping to over one hundred countries, with duties and taxes fully prepaid. Vintage rugs ship within 48 hours; made-to-order rugs ship the moment they are finished.

What are your rugs made of?

100% high-altitude Atlas wool, sourced from the flocks of our partner families and hand-spun in the village. Natural cotton is used for the warp on some flatweaves, and natural plant and mineral dyes are used where colour is required.

How do I care for a handwoven wool rug?

Vacuum weekly on a low setting, rotate every six months, and blot spills immediately with cold water and a white cloth. Full care instructions ship with every rug.
